For those visiting Funchal, I would like to suggest you go for an Afternoon Tea in the most beautiful setting ever: the Belmond Reid's Palace.
My love for this place is that here time seems to have stood still. I can almost imagine taking afternoon tea on the colonial terrace with the Empress of Austria, Elisabeth, or even spotting Winston Churchill’s cigar in the corner of my eye.
This is a timeless affair with delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and homemade pastries, all accompanied by a selection of teas or an indulgent glass of champagne.
The hotel is located on the top of a cliff, with beautiful views over the Atlantic and the city. You can then explore the magical gardens and maybe fall asleep on one of the seaside benches while reading a Jane Austin book.
You will not be disappointed.
Please note:
Booking ahead is recommended and there is a smart casual dress code (no shorts or sportswear) - and why would you visit such a setting without dressing and making an effort?
