Seaside, Seafood & Romance at Furnas do Guincho, Cascais

The second night of our grand tour in Portugal, we decided on a romantic ocean-side dinner, just down the coast from our hotel in Cascais, Furnas do Guincho.

Like Farol, Furnas to Guincho restaurant is also perched on the rugged coast. It is a large and spacious property but we were glad we booked as they quickly became very busy.

We decided to make the experience more memorable and sat outdoors on the edge of the sea, with splendid views of the sunset and the sounds of the waves crashing into the rocks.

This is definitely a restaurant for seafood lovers with a large variety of fish, grilled, baked and even stewed. The food is more traditional Portuguese, so don’t expect modern, fusion or sushi-like dishes. That means heavy, and the portions are large. We couldn’t finish any.

To drink, we had Vinho Verde, the young local (Portuguese wine), a white wine that goes very well with fish and seafood, so much that all waiters immediately recommend it when you order something that swims in the sea.

Sunset views are a must, especially in this location and with the right company. We must admit that although a great experience, they're also a great distraction (not complaining) - it's not until dusk appears that we finally can concentrate on our dishes and their unique flavours.

Lovely recommendation and definitely a very romantic setting.
